Football: Pelion at Gilbert

Site: Tomahawk Stadium. Time: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

Pelion notes: Elizabeth Mitchum’s extra-point kick in the second quarter proved to be the difference in the Panthers’ season-opening, 7-6 win over Swansea in the first game played at Pelion’s new on-campus stadium … Senior Sean Davis made it happen for the Panthers, running for 150 yards including a 21-yard touchdown gallop … Pelion finished with 334 yards of offense, 269 of which came by land.

Gilbert notes: The Indians return to action after taking a week off in the wake of a 41-20 Week 0 win over Great Falls at the new Tomahawk Stadium … Senior Marco Anderson, who has been a throne in Pelion’s side for two seasons already, got off to a great start vs. GF, running for 225 yards and five touchdowns … Adam Spiers hit on 9 of 22 passes for 76 yards and one TD in his first start at quarterback … Linebacker Cory Rish paced the Gilbert defensive effort with 14 tackles and one interception. Hunter Wright had 10 tackles and one pick.

Series history: Gilbert enjoys a pronounced 22-8 edge in the series, in large part because it won the first 15 meetings with the Panthers (1980-94). But things have heated up of late. The Indians pulled off a sweep last season - winning 20-7 in an early tune-up, and then pulling off a 33-26 success in the later Region 4-2A encounter.
