Football: West Florence at Camden

Site: Zemp Stadium. Time: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

West Florence notes: The Knights, who boast several blue-chip college prospects on defense, whipped archrival South Florence 42-6 in their season opener last week. WF was guilty of four turnovers, but it mattered little. In the end, the Knights rolled up 346 yards rushing with Avery Murray ringing up 108 yards and two touchdowns on just two carries. Murray’s 80-yard scoring jaunt broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter and opened the floodgates.

Camden notes: The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 last week, downing neighboring North Central 47-7. Camden jumped out to a 20-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, courtesy of a 22-yard scoring run by sophomore SaVonn Wingate and two touchdown passes by quarterback Robert Council … Fast starts have become something of a trademark in the early going. The Bulldogs have outscored two foes 52-7 in the first half to date … Wingate has run for 194 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. Council has connected on 10 of 20 passes for 224 yards and six scores. Trevor Johnson is the leading receiver so far with four catches for 40 yards and two TDs … Chris Outen is the leading tackler with 17 stops, and Jerel Robinson and Sjahbar Stewart have been quite impressive. Robinson has 13 tackles, including five tackles for loss and two sacks. Stewart had just four tackles, but leads the team with seven quarterback pressures and has also broken up one pass.

Series history: A 14-7 West Florence win last season upped the Knights series lead to 7-5. Camden had won five of the previous seven outings.
