Football: Wilson Hall at Cardinal Newman

Wilson Hall notes: The Barons improved to 2-0 by way of a 48-0 rout of Robert E. Lee last week. A 73-yard scoring pass from Thomas White to Chris Sharp in the first quarter got things rolling … Wilson Hall, which has won 13 of its last 14 games, has outscored its two opponents to date by a whopping 76-13 margin.

Cardinal Newman notes: The Cardinals opened the campaign with 21-14 road win in North Carolina against Christ School … CN, which has been offensively challenged for the past two seasons, rang up 320 yards last week. Davis Lemon and James Williams combined for 178 yards rushing. Lemon, last season’s only reliable offensive producer, finished with 95 yards on 20 carries, while Williams had 83 yards on 17 totes and scored all three CN touchdowns … Timmy Cunningham and Tommy Winterstein both saw time at quarterback. Cunningham was 7-for-13 passing for 69 yards and Winterstein went 8-for-14 for 54 yards … Thomas Winstead had six catches for 82 yards … The defense limited Christ School to just 70 offensive yards and rang up five sacks. Lemon and Phillip Thompson shared the team lead with eight tackles apiece. Michael Bolchoz, Will Rainwater and Winstead all had seven tackles. Thompson and Rainwater were each credited with two sacks and five tackles for loss.
