The third-ranked Lexington volleyball team got off to a rocky start last week, dropping two 3-1 decision.
The Wildcats fell at Blythewood in the season opener on Sept. 2, winning only the second game of the match, 25-21. Two days later against visiting Aiken in the Region 5-4A opener, Lexington started off fast with a 25-21 win in the first game. The Green Hornets, however, won the next three to pull off the upset.
Setter Mary Grace Swindler had 36 assists, 15 digs and three kill for Lexington vs. Aiken. The leading Wildcats hitters were Kellie Schmidt and Laurens Owens, who rang up 16 and 10 kills, respectively. Owens also was credited with 11 digs.
The Wildcats have two region matches on tap this week – at Richland Northeast on Tuesday and at Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Thursday.
