Football: Wilson Hall at Hammond

Wilson Hall notes: The Barons (2-0) overcame a tepid offensive performance lasdt week to beat Cardinal Newman 20-3. The WH defense limited the host Cardinals to a meager 129 years … Two big plays broke open the game in the second half. Ricky Crum broke off a 53-yard scoring run in the third quarter, and a 65-yard scoring pass from Thomas White to Tom DuRant in the fourth quarter made the outcome academic.

Hammond notes: Brad Meredith returned to the lineup with a bang last week at Orangeburg Prep, running for 157 yards and scoring five touchdowns in the Skyhawks 35-14 romp at Orangeburg Prep … Meredith missed the first game of the season with a hamstring pull – the same injury that cost him five games in 2007 … In the end, Hammond overwhelmed the Indians with 431 offensive yards. Quarterback Cliff Ayers hit 12 of 17 passes for 242 yards, but Meredith took care off all the scoring. Ayers is 31-for-44 for for 556 yards and two touchdowns to date … Kyle George, who played at running back in Week 1, had five catches for 103 yards vs. OP and has 10 catches for 197 yards in two games … Will Patterson again paced the Hammond defense with 15 tackles. The converted defensive end has 27 tackles and three sacks at his new position. Raymond Prince had 11 tackles for the second straight game.
