Airport's Sires runs well at two meets

Junior Jamie Sires enjoyed a productive week individually, but things are not looking good for the Airport boys cross country team’s bid to make the Top 10 cut at the Class 3A state meet again this season.

Sires emerged as the winner at the Lexington County Championships on Sept. 10 and finished ninth in the Championship Division at the Coaches Classic Invitational on Saturday at Sandhills Research Park. He is on pace to earn 3A all-state status in November for the second year in a row. He was the 10th fastest 3A entry in the two divisions at the Coaches Classic, clocking in at 17 minutes, 17 seconds. His winning time at the county meet was 16:43.

Airport is off to a slow start as a team. The Eagles finished 33rd with 798 points at the Coaches Classic, and are almost certain to drop out of the Top 10 when the new 3A rankings come out in two weeks.
