Lexington’s girls tennis team had a strange week, dropping a hotly contested 4-3 match to defending Class 3A state champion Hilton Head on Sept. 9, and having Region 5-4A matches ve, Richland Northeast and Orangeburg-Wilkinson later in the week suspended by rain.
The Wildcats stand at 2-1 on the season. Taylor Patterson is 2-1 on the season at No. 1 singles, Clair Larkin is 2-1 at No. 2, Annie Konburos is 2-1 at No. 3, Morgan Patterson is 2-1 at No. 4 and Sarah Kim is 2-0 at No. 5. Patterson and Larkin are 1-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Rachel Lovaas is 2-1 at No. 2 doubles with two different partners.
“I’ve been experimenting at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles, so nothing is settled there yet,” said Wildcats coach Eric Jackson. “But the team is coming along nicely.”
Larkin and Kim were Lexington’s singles winner against Hilton Head. The other win came from Lovaas and Erin Green at No. 2 doubles that forced the decision to No. 1 doubles.
