Fairfield Central notes: The Griffins have had an interesting start to the season with two blowout wins and one blowout loss. Last week, FC drubbed visiting Newberry 39-3. It was the worst Newberry loss since a 55-10 lambasting at the hands of the Griffins in 1999 … Danny Miller, who is sharing time at quarterback with Justin Trapp, went 5-for-5 for 52 yards and two touchdowns vs. Newberry. Miller has been amazingly accurate to far with 20 completions on 27 attempts for 243 yards and three TDs … No matter who was throwing the ball, MacKendrix Thompson always seemed to be on the receiving end. Thompson had seven grabs for 83 yards and one touchdown … The running game finally kicked into gear as Greg Gadsden darted for 154 yards and two TDs on 21 totes … Ralph Cooper and Josh Roseborough shared the defensive spotlight. Cooper had eight tackles and one tackle for loss, while Roseborough had eight stops and one sack. Mike Irby and Tavon Bouknight had seven tackles apiece.
Eau Claire notes: Xavier Murray ran for 123 yards on 22 carries in a 34-14 Shamrocks loss to Dreher last week, dropping EC to 1-2. Receiver Thomas had two catches for 61 yards and one TD … For the season, Murray 347 yards rushing on 47 carries and scored three TDs. Gillie has 10 catches for 237 yards and three scores … Sophomore Tracey Houston and junior Richard Castellano are atop the EC tackle chart with 26 and 25 stops, respectively. Junior Donald Purcell has two sacks.
Series history: The Griffins have stumbled just one time in 17 previous meetings with the Shamrocks. Eau Claire’s lone win was a 3-0 decision in 1990. FC has won 13 in a row since then, averaging 52.1 points a game during the streak.
