Keenan notes: The Raiders are off to a 3-0 start for only the second time in school history. Keenan pulled it off first in 1984 and again in 1993 when South Carolina State coach Buddy Pough was calling the Raiders shots … Keenan has blown by three Class 1A foes by a combined score of 122-12, but now the real test begins … Domonique Payne and Arthur Goforth teamed up for 180 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 47-0 romp over C.A. Johnson last week. Antonio Perry was 5-for-6 passing for 65 yards and two TDs. Marvin Poole had four catches for 53 yards and two tallies … Goforth has been a major contributor to the early-season success under first-year coach Mitchell Morton with 403 yards rushing, five catches for 89 yards and six touchdowns. Perry has completed 29 of his 45 throws for 445 yards and five TDs with just two interceptions. Poole has 12 catches on the books and 193 yards and three scores, and Quinton Corley has six receptions for 111 yards and one TD.
Batesburg-Leesville notes: The Panthers (2-1) bombed Swansea 42-14 last week as Colby Watkins and Elliott Jeffcoat both had two touchdowns runs. Watkins paced B-L’s 200-yard rushing assault with 109 yards on just six carries. Jeffcoat had two catches for 37 yards to go along with his 69 yards rushing on 11 carries … Sophomore K.J. Johnson was 6-for-9 passing for 100 yards and one TD … Travis Leaphart took defensive honors with eight tackles and one interception … To date, Jeffcoat tops all Panthers runners with 265 yards and four touchdowns, and is also the leading receiver with five catches for 131 yards and one score. Johnson has hit on 19 of 34 throws for 316 yards and four tallies … Linebacker Dametrious Robinson is far and away the top hit man with 39 tackles, followed by Michael Shealy (23), Ben Trotter (22), Taverious Davis (21) and Leaphart (20). Davis also has two sacks. Jamal Bryant has two interceptions - both of the thefts coming last week against Swansea.
Series history: The Panthers have never faltered against the Raiders, winning all 12 previous encounters. B-L took Keenan to task two times last season, including a 35-12 win in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
