Airport junior Jamie Sires continued his impressive early-season performance by winning individual honors at the Lake Murray Invitational cross country meet Saturday in Chapin.
Sires had winning time of 16 minutes, 57.86 seconds to beat out Chapin runners Russell Baker and Eric Rice at the finish line by 10 seconds. Sires was 6th in 17:14 at the Eye Opener meet in Spartanburg, won the Lexington county title with a time of 16:44 and was ninth in the Championship Division at the Coaches Classic Invitational the week before his Lake Murray triumph.
Airport had its best big-meet outing as a team, finishing ninth in the 17-team field. Joshua Williams (29th, 18:16.76), Wesley Ringo (60th, 19:42.74), Willie Cox (70th, 19:58.77) and Ryan Day (72nd, 20:05.35) added scoring support to Sires.
The Eagles girls placed 14th with Megan Stahlberger in the lead, Stahlberger finished 21st with a time of 21:13.08.
