Irmo senior Raheema Hodges headlined a big day for Yellow Jackets at the Lake Murray Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin.
Hodges was the girls individual champion, helping Irmo finished fourth in the team standings. The Yellow Jackets boys team had an even better showing, finishing third behind champion Chapin and runner-up Mauldin.
Hodges nipped Dutch Fork’s Samantha Hughes by less than four seconds to end a two-meet losing streak to the Silver Foxes leader. Hughes had beaten Hodges twice in one week prior to the Lake Murray confrontation. Hughes was first at the Lexington county championship meet on Sept. 10, and was ninth in the International Division race at the Coaches Classic on Sept. 13, two spots ahead of Hodges.
This time Hodges had the upper hand with a meet-winning time of 19 minutes, 39.59 seconds. Hughes was second at 19:45.18.
