Chapin turned in another fine showing at its own Lake Murray Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Crooked Creek Park. The Eagles claimed the boys team championship, while the girls finished in third place.
Russell Baker, Eric Rice and Carson Barnes led the Eagles to the team title with solid individual showings. Baker nipped Barnes at the finish line to secure runner-up honors behind individual champion Jamie Sires of Airport. Sires had a winning time of 16 minutes, 57.89 seconds. Baker checked in at 17:07.58, while Rice was third at 17:07.94.
Heath Lorick and Shaun Hinen were Chapin’s other scoring runners. Lorick was 15th with a time of 17:53.76, while Hinen was 18th in 17:57.65.
Chapin’s winning team score of 42 points was 30 points better than second-place Mauldin.

Lannon McCoy was the Eagles girls leader, finishing sixth with a time of 20:08.32. Syndey Frontz and Ashlee Wilson also cracked the Top 20. Frontz placed 12th and clocked in at 20:37.62, while Wilson finished 16th in 20:51.62. Olivia Bueno (30th, 21:43.16) and Hannah Shull (38th, 22:18.38) closed out the scoring.
The Eagles girls finished behind first-place Mauldin and county rival Dutch Fork.
