Game notes: C. A. Johnson’s official introduction to Class 1A football was not a pleasant one. The Hornets (0-4, 0-1) were drubbed 40-16 by third-year Fox Creek in the Region 4-1A opener for both teams … It was the eighth straight loss for CAJ dating back to last season. For Fox Creek, the rousing triumph marked the end of a 21-game losing streak and was only the second win in school history. It was the first region win in 11 tries for the North Augusta area charter school … Ridge-Spring-Monetta (1-3 overall) is coming off a 38-6 region loss to previously winless Hunter-Kinard-Tyler on Homecoming. Trojans coach Mark Rodgers was quoted after the games as saying his team has potential if it can eliminated “JV mistakes.” RS-M is coming off two outstandings seasons. The Trojans advanced to the Class 1A Division II championship game in 2006, and made it to the semifinals a year ago.
Series history: The teams will be meeting for the first time in football on Thursday night. The game also marks the Trojans first game in the city of Columbia in at least 25 years and the first-ever outing at Bolden Stadium.
