Jeffrey, Payne go under the knife

It's official. The high school careers of Columbia senior football stars Damario Jeffrey and Chris Payne are over. The two USC-bound Capitals will undergo season-ending surgery this week.

Jeffrey goes under the knife today to repair a torn ACL – an injury he suffered in the Sept. 5 game vs. Dreher. Payne’s surgery is set for Friday after he suffered a broken ankle early in last week’s game against Brookland-Cayce.

Senior Antonio Marshall, a transfer who was the starting quarterback at the start of the season, has also been lost for the season. Jeffrey was one of the players Columbia coach Kemper Amick had tabbed to help fill that vacancy.
