Spring Valley notes: After being blown out in the first three games of the season, the Vikings nearly snapped out of a long losing slump last week against Irmo. Alas, the host Yellow Jackets escaped with a 10-7 victory, dropping the Vikings to 0-4 this season and extending the losing skid to 16 games dating back to 2006.
Hartsville notes: The Red Foxes (3-2) were also done in by a field goal last week when Jordan Butler drilled a 32-yarder as time expired to give unbeaten Myrtle Beach a 30-28 win in the first meeting of the teams since 1967 … It was a classic run vs. pass kind of game. Hartsville had 350 yards rushing, while the Seahawks put up 380 yards passing. Dre Scott had 166 yards on the ground and two on 26 carries and Ronnie Jackson chipped in 135 yards on 17 totes … The Red Foxes double wing attack has produced 1,360 rushing yards to date. Scott has 492 yards and six TDs with Jackson at 397 yards with five scores.
Series history: Friday’s game in Darlington County marks the third straight year the teams have clashed. The schools had one hone-away set in the 1970s and one in the 1990s. The series is tied at 3-3. Hartsville was a 34-27 winner a year ago.
