Football: Gilbert at Swansea

Gilbert notes: The Indians (3-1) rebounded from a loss to Chapin to wipe out Class 1A Whitmire 47-6 last week, ringing up 41 points in the first half. Marco Anderson ran wild – posting 168 yards and five touchdowns on 18 carries … On defense, Gilbert picked off four Wolverine passes, two by Mike Morrison. Will Smith led the hit parade with seven tackles … Anderson has 667 yards rushing and 13 TDs on 77 carries to date. Quarterback Adam Spires is 31-for-67 passing for 322 yards and two scores … Cory Rish has a big lead in season tackles with 49. Brandon Wooten and Josh Steele are next with 33 tackles apiece.

Swansea notes: The Tigers (0-4) dropped their eighth straight game last week, courtesy of Class 1A Scott’s Branch. The host Eagles overpowered Swansea with 414 yards rushing in a 54-8 rout. Quinten Singleton accounted for of 248 of the rushing yards and 32 of the points himself … The Swansea defense, which played well in the first two games of the season, had yielded 96 points in the last two outings.

Series history: Swansea had a significant 19-8 advantage in the series, but Gilbert has won the last two contests. The Indians prevailed 28-14 a year ago.
