Fairfield Central notes: The Griffins (3-1) blasted Eau Claire 53-0 last week as Justin Trapp put on a remarkable show. Trapp was 5-for-10 passing for 151 yards and two touchdowns with 63 yards rushing on 12 carries while at quarterback. He also spent time at wide receiver and caught four passes for 42 yards … Shane Boulware had 68 yards rushing and had three scoring runs vs. the Shamrocks. Greg Gadsden finished with a team-high 127 yards rushing on just 11 carries, and he scored once. Jordan Belton led the way on defense with nine tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception … FC’s quarterback rotation featuring Trapp and Danny Miller has been functioning efficiently. Trapp is 23-for-50 for 390 yards and four TDs, while Miller is 26-for-35 for 316 yards and four scores … MacKendrix Thompson has been the big threat at receiver with 13 catches for 278 yards and five TDs. Trapp has 10 catches for 132 and Chori Evans has 10 catches for 182 yards and one score. Boulware and Gadsden have combined for 491 yards rushing and nine TDs on the ground … Josh Roseborough leads the defense with 28 tackles, four TFL, five sacks and four forced fumbles. Tavon Bouknight has 27 tackles, including three TFL. Belton has 20 tackles, four TFL and 2.5 sacks. Chris Hopkins has three interceptions.
Ridge View notes: The Blazers dropped to 2-2 in the wake of a 28-7 loss to Richland Northeast last week. RV had its worst offensive performance of the season, managing just one touchdown and 236 yards … Veteran running back Bucky Kennedy has 323 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 64 carries, and has seven receptions for 116 yards. Quarterback Jalen Perry is 39-for-91 passing for 493 yards and five TDs. Greg Adams tops the Blazers receiving corps with 15 catches for 185 yards and three scores … Alonzo Green has a team-high 36 tackles on defense, but Renard Ellis, Antoine Parker and Issac Heyward have been the big-play men. Ellis has 21 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. Parker has 21 tackles, three TFL and 2.5 sacks. Heyward has 20 tackles, three TFL and two sacks.
Series history: The teams played four times in Ridge View’s first two varsity season, but have not met since FC eliminated the Blazers from the 1997 Class 3A state playoffs with a 37-19 win in the Upper State championship game. The Griffins have won all four previous confrontations. The Blazers also fell the Winnsboro bunch in the Upper State finale in 1996 in Buddy Pough’s last game as a high school coach. Pough is now the head man at South Carolina State.
