White Knoll notes: The Timberwolves (1-3) enter Region 5-4A play against an unfamiliar foe with history working against them. White Knoll’s all-time record in region play is 10-30 … The Timberwolves were dealt a 45-0 loss by Sumter last week … The key to getting the offense going is to starting generating more production in the running game. WK runners have produced just 212 yards and are averaging only 1.6 yards per attempt in the first four games … Young quarterbacks Stephen Cagle and Dalton Taylor have combined for 527 passing yards and three TDs … Everette Smith leads the defense with 29 tackles.
RNE notes: The Cavaliers (2-2) ended a two-game losing slump last week with a 28-7 win over Richland 2 district rival Ridge View. The tone was set on the opening kickoff when Kenny Upshaw put RNE on the board with an 84-yard scoring return … Upshaw later hauled in a 33-yard scoring pass from Kersean Wilson, who completed 7 of 12 passes for 161 yards and three TDs … The bad news is star senior defensive end Chris Bonds underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus cartilage in his right knee and may be lost for the rest of the season.
Series history: The Region 5-4A opener for both teams on Friday is also the first-ever football meeting of the Timberwolves and Cavaliers.
