Airport’s Jamie Sires in on a roll in cross country of late. The Eagles junior standout won his second big-meet championship in as many tires last week at the Pelion Invitational.
Sires, who won at the Lake Murray Invitational the previous weekend, prevailed against much the same field on Sept. 25 at Pelion. Sires beat out Chapin’s Russell Baker for top honors for the second week in a row. The Eagles ace beat Baker by 9.14 seconds at Lake Murray and virtually the same winning margin last week. Sires’ winning time was 16:50 to the 16:59 turned in by Baker.
Airport was fourth in the team standings. Willie Cox (11th, 17:52), Josh Williams (23rd, 18:43), Josh Stevenson (39th, 19:32) and Wesley Ringo (40th, 19:34) followed Sires across the finish line.
