Panthers run well at own invitational

Pelion’s cross country teams enjoyed a solid showing at its own invitational meet on Sept. 25.

The Panthers girls were the headliners with a fourth-place finish behind 4A Dutch Fork, 3A Chapin and reigning SCISA champion Hammond, but the boys had a good showing, as well, while placing sixth in the field of 15 gteams.

Eighth-grader Nevada Minard was the Panthers solo star, finishing third behind the DF duo of Samantha Hughes and Niki Klasnik with a time of 19 minutes, 57 seconds. Minard received nice support from Alexandra Kyzer (13th, 21:19), Anna Garcia (16th, 21:49), Patricia Garcia (19th, 22:04) and Becky Walker (21st, 22:13).

Jake Walker set the pace for the Panthers boys squad, with a 13th-place finish and a time of 17:56. Brandon Earwood (25th, 18:57), Craig Bennett (29th, 19:02), Aubrey Hite (45th, 19:51) and Jared Corley (46th, 19:57) rounded out the Pelion scoring lineup.
