Dutch Fork’s girls cross country team bagged its second big-meet win of the season on Sept. 25, topping the 13-team field at the Pelion Invitational. The Silver Foxes claimed the Lexington County title a few weeks ago.
The top-of-the-lineup punch delivered by Sam Hughes, Niki Klasnic and Michelle Arms was the difference in DF’s 47-58 win over neighboring Chapin in the final team tabulations. Hughes and Klasnic occupied the top two spots in the individual standings, while Arms finished fourth. Hughes picked up her second major-meet win of the season at Pelion with a time of 19 minutes, 42 seconds – 10 seconds faster than Klasnic. Arm clocked in at 19:59.
Hannah Martin (17th, 21:53) and Kelsey Callahan (23rd, 22:14) provided solid backing from the frontrunners.
The Dutch Fork boys had a fine outing at Pelion, as well. The Silver Foxes finished third behind county rivals Chapin and Lexington with a team score of 100 points. Grant Pensa (9th, 17:44), Roland Hakes (16th, 18:00), Zac Jaynes )18th, 18:17), Zach Duskin (19th, 18:28) and Josh Fields (38th, 19:28) were the DF scoring runners.
