Chapin’s boys cross country team secured its third big-meet win of the season on Sept. 25 at the Pelion Invitational. The Eagles girls finished second behind Dutch Fork.
Russell Baker, Eric Rice and Carson Barnes led the way for the Chapin boys, finishing second, third and fourth, respectively, behind champion Jamie Sires of Airport. Baker had a second-place time of 16 minutes, 59 seconds, followed closely by Rice (17:02) and Barnes (17:09). Shaun Jinen (10th, 17:50) and Heath Lorick (15th, 17:59) also contributed to the Eagles 34-61 winning margin over second-place Lexington.
Chapin’s previous team wins came at the Lexington County championships and the Lake Murray Invitational.
The Eagles girls team finished with 58 points, 11 off the pace of first-place Dutch Fork. Four Chapin runner cracked the Top 10 – Lannon McCoy (5th, 20:06), Syndey Frontz (6th, 20:30), Ashlee Wilson (7th, 20:30) and Olivia Bueno (10th, 21:04). Hannah Shull (30th, 22:43) was the fifth and final scoring runner for the Eagles.
