Keenan notes: The Raiders finished non-region testing with a 4-1 record after beating Dreher 22-10 last week. Arthur Goforth put on quite a show vs. the Blue Devils, running for 205 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries … Goforth has 686 yards and eight TDs on 74 carries to date, and also has six catches for 115 yards. Quarterback Antonio Perry is 52-for-87 passing for 693 yards and six scores. Marvin Poole is the leading receiver with 25 catches for 393 yards and four TDs.
Central notes: The Eagles improved to 5-0 and handed defending Class 1A Division I state champion Chesterfield its first loss of the season last Saturday. Central prevailed 21-20 in overtime to give the Eagles their first season sweep of Chesterfield County rivals Cheraw and Chesterfield since 2003 … Joey Mangum’s veteran team has the look of a state championship contender, and no real stars at the skill positions. It all starts up front for Central. USC commitment Justice Cunningham anchors the defensive line at tackle. The offensive line features two four-year and two three-year starters … Quarterback Stephen Smith directs the Eagles’ wishbone attack, and can throw when needed. He had three scoring passes vs. Indian Land earlier in the season … Defensively, the Eagles limited star Travis Small to 27 yards rushing in a 33-13 win over two-time defending 2A state champion Cheraw two weeks ago … Since claiming the program’s third state championship in seven tries in 2003, Central has been eliminated in the first round in 2004, in the second round in 2005, in the third round in 2006 and in the fourth round (Upper State title game by Cheraw) in 2007.
Series history: How good are the Raiders? That question will be answered on Friday night when Keenan makes its first-ever trip to Pageland to face one of the more storied football programs in the state at the Class 2A level in the Region 4-2A opener for both teams.
