Eau Claire notes: Turnovers and penalties doomed the Shamrocks (1-4) last week in a 28-14 loss to Pelion in the final non-region game of the season … Running back Xavier Murray had a great outing in the disappointing loss – running for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. The senior standout now has 681 yards rushing and five TDs on 104 carries on the books in his quest to become EC’s first back-to-back 1,000-yard running man in at least 36 years … Quarterback Ronald Weeks had 98 passing yards vs. Pelion, and senior receiver had three grabs for 77 yards. Linebackers Tracey Houston and Richard Castellano had 11 and nine tackles, respectively … Gillie has 14 catches for 326 yards and three TDs so far. Houston has a 54-38 lead over Castellano in total tackles for the season. Freshman Marquise Jones has two interceptions.
Andrew Jackson notes: The Volunteers dropped to 2-3 after a 24-14 loss to neighboring Camden. AJ trailed 17-0 in the third quarter before finally getting things in gear offensively … Daniel Wright had a scoring run vs. Camden and quarterback Daniel Pardue hooked up with Tremaine Jackson on a 43-yard scoring pass.
Series history: The Shamrocks square off the Vols for the first time in football Friday night in Kershaw. The game also marks the official start of EC football at the Class 2A level.
