Camden notes: Alvonta Jenkins was the new quarterback for the Bulldogs in a 24-14 win over Andrew Jackson in the final primer for the start of the Region 6-3A campaign. Jenkins, a sophomore who showed big-play ability at receiver in the early going, completed 4 of 5 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown in his new role … Camden (3-2) has had one constant of offense – sophomore running back SaVonn Wingate, who has produced 591 yards and three touchdowns on 102 carries so far … Chris Outten and Roland Johnson are the top hit men on defense with 55 and 50 tackles, respectively. Jerel Robinson and Sjahbar Stewart have contributed their fair share of big plays, as well. Robinson has 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks and three fumble recoveries. Stewart has 19 tackles, four TFL, three sacks and one interception.
Crestwood notes: The Knights emerged from last week’s soggy defensive slugfest with Lake City with a 12-7 win to enter Region 6-3A play with a 4-1 record. Crestwood has won four in a row after .losing to Sumter in Week 1 … The Knights managed just 198 yards of offense vs. the Panthers – all on the ground. Treginald Wilson attempted only two passes, both of which fell incomplete. But the senior quarterback ran for a game high 70 yards and scored both Crestwood touchdowns … The win belonged to the defense. Na’Im Johnson had 14 tackles, three tackles for loss. Marquise Parker had 12 tackles, three TFL. Darius Wallace had nine tackles, three TFL and one sack. Travis McCunico chipped in eight tackles, two TFL and one sack.
Series history: Much has changed since the teams last met in 1999. Camden was at the height of power, while Crestwood was just starting to turn the corner. The Bulldogs won three of four games (1996-99), but the Knights won 19-7 in 1998, and Camden escaped with a 14-13 victory in 1999.
