Football: Pelion at Edisto

Pelion notes: Pelion officially begins its membership in alien Region 5-2A this week in its region opener against host Edisto. The Panthers (3-2) closed out the non-region phase of the schedule with a 28-14 win over Eau Clair … Sean Davis, operating primarily at tailback this time, ran for 125 yards and two second-half touchdowns on 17 carries vs. the Shamrocks. Linebacker Nick Nuzzi led the defensive charge with nine tackles … Davis has netted 687 yards and nine TDs to date on 11 carries. Nick Gerity tops the hit list with 32 tackles, followed by Nuzzi with 24. Ryan Rogers has a team high three sacks.

Edisto notes: The Cougars (3-2) closed non-region testing with a 22-7 win over Class 3A Lake Marion. Derrick Jenkins ran for 147 yards and one touchdown and Malik Brown had 19 tackles and two sacks to headline the Edisto effort on both sides of the ball … The Cougars have hit the skids of late with three losing seasons in the last four years after stringing together the best seven-year run of success in school history. Edisto went 63-21 overall and 26-9 in region play from 1997 through 2003 … Andy Palmer is in his eighth season in charge in Cordova.

Series history: Pelion debuts in the new region against the only team in the group it has had much dealing with in the past. The teams have met six times, most recently in 2003. Edisto has a 5-1 lead in the series with Pelion’s lone success coming in 2000.
