South Florence notes: The long-suffering Bruins (1-4) need a little stability, if nothing else. SF is operating under its third head coach in three years. Lynn Fleming was brought in for former Byrnes assistant Brian Lane, who replaced Ken Cribb in 2007 but left to take the job at Woodruff after just one year in Florence. Fleming was hired away from West-Oak in the Upstate to start the process of making the Bruins more competitive … Fleming has a daunting challenge on his hands. The program is 61-101 since 1994 and has never finished better than 6-5 during the span … Other than a 41-6 win over Lakewood, the Bruins have been defensively challenged this season, yielding and average of 42.3 points in their four setbacks … Troy Jones and Terrion Brown share the running load. Jones has 320 yards and two touchdowns in the books, Brown has 271 yards and three TDs. Jones and Kaleb Griffin have shared time at quarterback. Jones is 27-for-79 passing for 332 yards and two scores, while Griffin is 17-for-29 for 209 yards and two TDs. Charles Nettles is the top receiver with 17 catches for 170 yards and three scores … On defense, Brandon Gordon has 47 tackles, Shannon Rodgers has 36 tackles and 13 tackles for loss.
Ridge View notes: The Blazers (2-3) are coming off a 42-14 loss to Fairfield Central and will be looking to end a two-game losing streak before entering Region 4-4A action on Oct. 12 at Rock Hill … Bucky Kennedy rang up 117 rushing yards and one touchdown in the loss to FC, while receiver Greg Adams had six catches for 74 yards … Marcus Lylerly had 16 tackles, three tackles for loss and one fumble recovery on defense.
Series history: The Blazers are 4-0 vs. the Bruins, but the two most recent meetings have been rather hotly contested. RV was a 38-35 winner in a 2004 shootout, and escaped with a 10-6 verdict in a 2005 defensive struggle.
