Football: Irmo at Aiken

Site: Louis Hagood Stadium. Time: 8 p.m.

Irmo notes: The Yellow Jackets are on the road again after launching the Region 5-4A campaign with a 33-26 win over Orangeburg-Wilkinson in The Garden City last Saturday … Irmo (3-2, 1-0) jumped out to a 21-0 lead and survived a determined comeback by the Bruins to hand Tommy Brown’s team its first loss of the season … Mustafa Green returned to the lineup after missing two games with a shoulder injury, but did not play the entire game. Dawan Scott stepped into the spotlight, running for 96 yards and scoring four touchdowns in 18 carries. Scott’3 3-yard scoring run with 1:09 to play proved to be the game winner … Green has 256 yards and two touchdowns on 51 carries. Quarterback Brian Hill is 33-for-79 for 354 yards and two scores. Nathan Dorton is the prime target, and has 14 catches for 184 yards.

Aiken notes: The Green Hornets (4-1, 0-1) are looking to rebound after suffering its first loss of the season - 22-19 defeat at home to Lexington in the Region 5-4A opener for both teams … The Hornets took a 19-14 lead at 9:34 of the fourth quarter on a 14-yard scoring run by Aubrey Johnson, but were powerless to stop Lexington’s go-ahead, 16-play, 65-yard scoring drive as time ticked away … As usual, Aiken, like Irmo, relies heavily lon the ground game. Johnson and Cortez Abney are the prime movers. Johnson had 104 yards rushing and one TD last week, while Abney darted for 97 yards and one score.

Series history: The series has been a model of competitive balance through the years with each team winning nine times since it all began in 1974. Irmo has been in charge of late, however, with three straight wins - including a 24-6 triumph last season.
