Host Heathwood Hall had a solid performance at its own Highlander Invitational cross country meet on Oct. 1. The meet served as a preview of the upcoming independent school state meet on the same course with most of the top teams in attendance.
The Highlanders boys finished third behind championship contenders Wilson Hall and St. Joseph’s, scoring 91 points, while the girls team came away with a fifth-place performance.
Burk Knowlton headlined the Highlanders effort with a sixth-place finish with a time of 18 minutes, nine seconds. West Summers (12th, 18:40), Landon Sanford (16th, 18:53), Preston Frankstone (28th, 19:45) and Ian Buckley (29th, 19:52) provided the scoring support.
Brooke Grice was at the head of the Highlanders girls pack, finishing 12th in 21:51. Catherine Ivey (24th, 23:10), Casey Roth (28th, 23:21), Virginia Kluiters (45th, 25:37) and Sara Williamson (48th, 25:48) did the rest of the scoring on the girls side.
