Columbia notes: The new-look Capitals (5-1, 1-0) opened the Region 4-2A campaign with a 28-14 road win over Lee Central … Senior Antonio Wilson, the new main man in the backfield, got the call 33 times vs. the Stallions, and produced 198 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Kevin Davis, in his first start at quarterback, completed 4 of 8 passes for 133 yards and one score. Junior wide receiver Christian Reed had an impressive yield for only three touches in the game. He had two catches for 98 yards and one TD, and his lone run of the night was a 23-yard scoring dash that sealed the verdict … Linebacker Lorenzo Boyles had 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and one u\quarterback hurry. Boyles has 78 tackles to date.
Eau Claire notes: The Shamrocks (1-5, 0-1) fell 28-7 in last week’s region opener to Andrew Jackson in Kershaw … The host Volunteers finished with 409 offensive yards and scored all 28 points in the first half to put EC in the hole … The only Shamrocks points came on a late scoring pass from Ronald Weeks to freshman Marquise Jones … Xavier Murray finished with 74 yards rushing on 17 carries, and has 755 yards and five touchdowns on 121 carries on the season … Donald Purcell had 15 tackles and one sack vs. AJ, but linebacker Tracey Houston still leads the EC hit parade with 63 tackles.
Series history: Columbia has won 11 in a row vs. the Shamrocks and enjoys a pronounced 21-3 advantage in the series since the start of the modern era in 1970. Thursday’s game marks the first region clash between the teams since 1981 when both schools were still in Class 4A.
