South Florence notes: The Bruins closed out non-region testing last week with a 1-5 record after a losing 49-7 to Ridge View … Quarterback Troy Jones is the SF offensive leader. Jones has run for 351 yards and two touchdowns and completed 33 of 96 passes for 360 yards and three TDs. Charles Nettles is the top receiver with 18 catches for 183 yards and three scores.
Sumter notes: The Gamecocks finished the non-region schedule last week with a 34-6 conquest of winless Spring Valley. Sumter and Conway both enter the Region 6-4A campaign with 5-1 records … The Gamecocks managed only 63 net yards rushing on 27 attempts last week, but it hardly mattered. Quarterback Stephen Curtis picked up the slack with a big passing night. Curtis connected on 17 of 25 throws for 358 yards and five touchdowns. Curtis spread the wealth, utilizing seven different receivers. Tyler Smith was the nominal leader with four catches for 84 yards and one TD. Avery Woods netted 86 yards and two scores from his two receptions … For the season, Curtis is 57-for-95 passing for 1029 yards and 13 touchdowns. Eleven different receivers have been in the mix with Travis Fredimon’s 11 catches for 210 yards and five TDs at the top of the list … Running back Roderick McDowell has seen his production drop of late. He hasn’t had a 100-yard rushing game since Week 3. Still, the senior star has 677 yards and eight TDs on the books, and a 6.98 yard-per-carry average … The Gamecocks defense has been splendid all season. Sumter leads all 6-4A teams with just 89 points allowed during the non-region campaign. The unit has two shutouts and allowed just six points in the last three games in the wake of a home loss to Spartanburg … Timmy Rogers (59 tackles) and Quinn McClendon (52) are the unit tackles leaders, and have three sacks apiece. Kevin Sinkler has three interceptions.
