Cardinal Newman notes: The Cardinals (2-3) entered SCISA Region 1-3A play from for a 27-12 loss to Porter-Gaud last week in Charleston. CN managed just 195 yards and one offensive touchdown against the Cyclones … Davis Lemon had 67 yards rushing on 21 carries. Quarterback Tommy Winterstein connected on 10 of 20 passes for 75 yards and one touchdown. Kyle Broadway had four catches for 35 yards and one TD … On defense, Michael Bolchoz had eight tackles, while Rush Tompkins had seven tackles and two sacks.

Hammond notes: The Skyhawks (6-1, 0-1) saw their 14-game winning streak come to a disappointing end last week in a 33-26 loss to fire-up Ben Lippen. Hammond, uncharacteristically, came up small with the game on the line in the fourth quarter. The Skyhawks lost two fumbles in the final 12 minutes, including one with 1:05 remaining that sealed their fate, and failed to cash in after reaching the BL 11-yard line with less than four minutes to play. The four-play net in the prime red zone chance was one yard … The setback was the first region loss for Hammond since the 2005 season … The fourth-quarter offensive woes negated a 497-yard performance. Kyle George had 132 yards rushing on 15 carries, Les Cotter had 74 yards on 13 carries and quarterback Cliff Ayers went 18-for-28 passing for 283 yards.
