The Ridge View Blazers volleyball team began a busy week hosting the Lancaster Bruins (0-7) in a 4-4A match-up on Tuesday, 9/30/08, in their first home Regional match of the season. The Blazers were coming off an excellent showing at the Northwestern Invitational the weekend before, where they took a 2nd place finish, losing to Mauldin in the championship match. The Blazers continued their solid play in this match, defeating the Bruins 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-11) to move them to a 2-1 record in the Region and 8-3 overall.
Serving was the name of the game for the Blazers, as they ripped off 31 total service aces for the match. Senior outside hitter Lauren Fink collected 11 aces needing only 22 serve attempts, and also added 4 kills during the match. Junior setter Megan Woodall, using a jump-serve, tallied 11 aces in her 20 attempts, and distributed the ball with 23 assists. Adding to the offense, junior outside hitter Hannah Cox and sophomore middle blocker Keyaira Stevenson each banged out a team-leading 9 kills, with Stevenson also delivering 6 serve aces. The Blazers are on the road the remainder of the week at Ben Lippen on Wednesday, and South Pointe on Thursday.
