Airport notes: The defending region champion Eagles (4-2, 0-1) dropped a bitter 17-14 decision to Midland Valley in last week’s Region 5-3A opener in Aiken County. Brandon Watkins’ 19-yard field goal was the only scoring in the overtime sessions after the host Mustangs tied the score with 27 seconds left in regulation, courtesy of a Jesse Scott 7-yard scoring catch and a PAT kick by Watkins … Airport quarterback W.T. Murden hooked up with Deonne Hopkins on a 44-yard scoring pass in the second quarter, and had a 46-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Murden finished with 95 yards rushing and was 4-for-9 passing for 81 yards … Murden and Ryan Smith are dueling for the team rushing lead. Murden has 463 yards, three touchdowns and is averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Smith has 435 yards, three TDs and is averaging 5.2 yards per tote. Murden has completed 52 of 114 passes for 679 yards and 10 scores … Rashaad Hampton rang up 17 tackles vs. Midland Valley and leads the team with 70 stops to date. Chris Phillips moved into a tie for second in team tackles (62) with a 19-tackle performance at Midland Valley.

Swansea notes: The Tigers (0-6, 0-1) were dealt a 42-0 loss last week by Brookland-Cayce in the 5-3A opener. It was the 10th straight setback for Swansea and the second shutout loss/ The Tigers have managed just one touchdown and been out-scored 143-8 in the last three games.

Series history: The series enters its third year with both teams winning one game. Airport earned a 28-6 victory last season after Swansea prevailed 19-6 in the first meeting of the teams in 2006.
