North Augusta notes: North Augusta (5-1, 2-0) is looking to keep pace with Lexington at the top of the Region 5-4A standings. The Yellow Jackets erupted for 21 points in the third quarter last week to break open a tight game against White Knoll that ended with a 35-7 final score … The NA defense has surrendered only 58 points to date – the lowest yield in the region. Montel Hughes had 12 tackles, two sacks and one tackles for loss vs. WK. Hughes has 49 tackles so far, but the season leaders are Brett Johnson (61 tackles) and Jimmy Stallings (51 tackles, 4 sacks). Brandon Bright has a team high five sacks … Tidy Johnson is the main man on offense. The senior running back has 1050 yards and six touchdowns on 151 carries.
Irmo notes: The Yellow Jackets (3-3, 1-1) dropped a bitter 21-14 decision to host Aiken last week in a Region 5-4A thriller. Irmo tied the score at 14-14 on a 40-yard scoring pass from Brian Hill to Nathan Dorton and an Eduardo Perez PAT kick at the 7:12 mark of the fourth quarter. But Aiken responded with a clutch 14-play, 77-yard scoring drive capped by quarterback Kessler Scott’s 1-yard scoring plunge with 17 seconds remaining in regulation … Dawan Scott, subbing for injured Mustafa Greene, had 116 yards on 18 carries. His 34-yard touchdown run staked the Jackets to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Series history: North Augusta was a 23-21 winner last season, but it was only the fifth NA success in 28 tries against Irmo since the series debuted in 1974. The North Augusta triumph a year ago ended a 10-game Irmo winning streak in the series.
