Football: Ridge View at South Pointe

Site: District Three South Stadium. Time: 7:30 p.m.

Ridge View notes: For the second week in a row the Blazers (3-4, 0-1) head up I-77 to Rock Hill for a tough Region 4-4A game. Last week, RV dropped a 22-7 decision to Rock Hill in the region opener … The Blazers managed just 130 total offensive yards vs. the Bearcats, and will be facing the No. 1 defense in the 4A ranks this time around … Ridge View’s defense played well vs. Rock Hill, allowing 199 yards. Linebacker Alonzo Green had 17 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Linebacker Keandre Peavey had 16 tackles and one pass deflection. Lineman Antonio Parker had 14 tackles … Bucky Kennedy had 101 yards rushing on 26 carries to headline the offensive effort. The Blazers scored on their second play from scrimmage on a 52-yard scoring pass from Jalen Perry to Greg Adams, but never located the end zone again.

South Pointe notes: The Stallions are undefeated, and is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in scoring offense (321 points) and scoring defense (40). Surprisingly, SP’s individual numbers are hardly overwhelming. The reason is the starters have rarely had to play a full, four-quarter game … The real bottom line is SP (7-0, 1-0) has scored 46 touchdowns to date, while allowing six. Fairfield Central is the only team to date to score more than one TDS vs. the Stallions fleet, aggressive defense … Quarterback Stephon Gilmore is the numbers headliner. The senior blue-chip recruit leads the team in rushing, passing and scoring. He has 559 yards rushing and 11 TDs on 54 carries, and is 50-for-80 passing for 727 yards and four scores. Charles Holmes leads the receiving corps with 23 catches for 404 yards and two TDs … SP is potent on special teams with four return tallies. Cornerback Devonte Holloman, a transfer from Charlotte, has been a terror on punt returns, but rarely sees the ball kicked his way these days. Hollloman’s yield on nine returns is 170 yards and three touchdowns … The Stallions defense limited Lancaster to a grand total of 71 yards in a 43-7 win over the Bruins last week in the Region 4-4A opener.
