Lower Richland notes: The Diamond Hornets (3-4, 1-1) managed just 145 offensive yards in a 26-0 Region 4-3A loss to Fairfield Central last week. LR faces another tough defense this week … Quarterbacks Nicholas Smith and John Worthy continue to be the team’s offensive headliners. Smith is 49-for-86 passing for 636 yards, while Worthy has hit on 33 of 76 tosses for 430 yards. Brandon Wilkerson and Rochon Johnson are the top receivers. Wilkerson has 23 catches for 261 yards, and Johnson has 21 grabs for 282 yards. Johnson had four receptions for 89 yards vs. FC … Middle linebacker Hayward Martin had 14 tackles last week to increase his season hit total to 108.
Lugoff-Elgin notes: The Demons (5-2, 1-1) will be looking to bounce back from a bitter 22-19 loss at home to Chester in a game with Region 4-3A championship implications. The vaunted L-E defense was powerless to stop an 18-play, 83-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter by the visiting, defending region champion Cyclones that wiped out a 19-14 Demons lead … Trent Hudson was the L-E offensive star with 76 yards rushing and two touchdowns. The defensive headliner was Julian Baxter, who had seven tackles, two pass deflections and had a school-record 96-yard interception return touchdown … Hudson now has 575 yards and nine TDs by land, and also has seven receptions for 119 yards and another tally. Phillip Osborne still leads the running game with 916 yards and five scores on 125 carries … Stephen Boneparte leads the L-E hit parade with 61 tackles. Linebacker Ryan Wannamaker has 60 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. The Demons have 11 interceptions to date. Devonte Alexander has four of the picks, Anthony Myers three.
