Football: Chapin at Chester

Chapin notes: The Eagles 4-3, 1-1) erupted for 580 offensive yards and 24 first downs last week, but six turnovers made things more uncomfortable than they should have been. Chapin did not put the visiting Falcons away until the fourth quarter when Josh Miller and Neil Sawyer hooked up on a 92-yard scoring pass with 6:43 to go … Miller had a huge night for the Eagles, connecting on 11 of 12 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns and running for 152 yards and two scores on 11 carries. Sawyer had seven catches for 203 yards, and Mikey Capers chipped in 82 yards rushing and three TDs on 18 carries … Miller leads the team in rushing, passing and scoring. The senior quarterback has 498 yards rushing and nine scores on 90 attempts, and is 56-for-114 passing for 1240 yards and 12 TDs … Capers has 478 yards and five scores on 89 carries, while Graham Montgomery has 475 yards rushing and three TDs on 93 totes. Sawyer is averaging 26.9 yards on his 26 receptions to date, and has eight scoring catches … On defense, John Sloan has a team high 79 tackles. Zach Quasney has 54 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups. Ryan Elliott has 45 tackles, six tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and three pass breakups ... Chapin's region championship hopes hinge on beating Chester this week.

Chester notes: The Cyclones (4-3, 2-0) can put a virtual lock on their second straight region championship with a win over the Demons. Chester has dispatched top contenders Fairfield Central and Lugoff-Elgin in the first two rounds of the conference campaign … Last week, the Cyclones put together a 17-play, 83-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter in a 22-19 win at Lugoff-Elgin. Sophomore quarterback Tony McNeal hit three critical passes for first downs to keep the march in motion – two on third-and-9 situations, the other on a do-or-die fourth-and-11 call. Sophomore running back Julius Pendergrass capped the move with a 1-yard run … McNeal was 15-for-26 passing for 159 yards in the game, while Pendergrass had 75 yards and three TDs on 17 carries … For the season, McNeal is 119-for-219 for 1782 yards and 20 touchdowns. Pendergrass has 549 yards rushing and eight TDs on 104 totes. Fred Lee and Jeremy Hughes are McNeal’s favorite targets. Lee has 38 catches for 533 yards and 10 TDs. Hughes has 31 receptions for 625 yards and six scores … Chester has won eight straight region games over the past two seasons.

Series history: The Eagles face a long road trip to take on the Cyclones for the first time.
