Football: Irmo at White Knoll

Irmo notes: The Yellow Jackets (5-3, 3-1) projected themselves into the middle of the Region 5-4A championship race by downing Lexington 27-15 last week. The big news was the return of Mustafa Greene to the lineup … The junior running back made an immediate impact by running for 182 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. Dawan Scott, who replaced the injured Greene for much of the season, chipped in 55 yards on six carries … Quarterback Brian Hill was 3-for-6 passing for 79 yards. Two of his three completions were key to a late first-half score vs. Lexington that put Irmo ahead for good at 20-15 … The Jackets defense surrendered 343 yards, including 264 on the ground, but turned away two Lexington red zone chances in the fourth quarter.

White Knoll notes: The Timberwolves (1-7, 0-4) have scored a total of six touchdowns in their seven losses to date. Last week, WK dropped a 35-0 decision to Aiken for its sixth straight setback … Receiver Hunter Counts set a new school single-game record with 10 receptions in Week 7 vs. Dutch Fork … Brandon Proveaux and Justin Goff have played well on defense for the Timberwolves. Proveaux has 31 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks and eight quarterback pressures. Goff has 31 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, 10 pressures, two pass break ups and one interception.

Series history: Irmo has yet to fall to White Knoll, averaging 34.8 points scored in the six previous meetings.
