Storyline: RNE and North Augusta currently share first place in Region 5-4A along with Irmo and Lexington, which means Friday’s winner remains in the title hunt with two games left in the regular season, while the loser is pretty much relegated to a scramble for second place.
Richland NE notes: The Cavaliers (5-3, 3-1) turned a tight contest with Dutch Fork last week into a rout with a 21-burst in the third quarter. All three scores came in a seven-minute span – a 78-yard pass from Kersean Wilson to Kenny Upshaw, a 66-yard run by G.G. Greene and a 45-yard pass from Wilson to Upshaw again. In the end, RNE prevailed 30-6 … Wilson completed only four passes in the rain, but the yield was 148 yards and two touchdowns. Upshaw was just as economical – his two scoring catches were his only receptions of the night. Greene finished with 101 yards rushing on 11 carries … For the season, Greene has 859 yards rushing and seven TDs on 151 attempts. Wilson has 360 yards and seven scores by land, and is 64-for-109 for 979 yards and 11 TDs by air. Upshaw is the top receiver with 17 catches for 416 yards (24.5 yards per catch average) and four tallies.
North Augusta notes: The Yellow Jackets (6-2, 3-1) edged Orangeburg-Wilkinson 24-22 on Tidy Johnson’s 5-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter last week in the Garden City. Johnson finished with 185 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries. The senior workhorse has 1375 yards rushing and eight TDs on 211 totes to date … NA’s best start in seven years has been key by the running of Johnson and the play of its defense, which in ranked No. 1 in the region in scoring defense. The Jackets unit has allowed 101 points to date. Brett Johnson (74 tackles), Montel Hughes (70.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks), Jimmy Stallings (64 tackles, 4 sacks) and Emeka Okafor (46.5 tackles, 4.5 sacks) are the defensive leaders.

Series history: Friday’s game marks the first regular season meeting of the schools. The Cavaliers scored a wild 49-32 win over the Yellow Jackets in the 2003 Class 4A Division II quarterfinals in the lone previous encounter.
