Airport notes: The Eagles (6-2, 1-1) bounced back from a bitter Region 5-3A loss to Midland Valley to thump South Aiken 35-7 last week in a game that feature the debut of star linebacker Rashad Hampton at running back. Hampton rumbled for 54 yards on eight carries, and broke off a 40-yard scoring run for the first points of the game … In all, Airport rolled up 383 offensive yards vs. the Thoroughbreds, 289 of which came on the ground. Ricardo Jackson ended up as the Eagles leader rusher with 98 yards on six carries, 69 of which came on a third-and-19 play that set up Airport’s final score … The Eagles defense limited SA to a meager 64 yards.
Dreher notes: The Blue Devils (1-7, 0-3) have no choice but to win their final two games to even have a shot at a state playoff berth. Even if Dreher does sweep, South Aiken must lose its final two outings for the Blue Devils to make the cut … Dreher fell 24-7 last week to Brookland-Cayce, despite out-gaining the Bearcats 292 yards to 266 … Jabril Williams continued his fine play vs. B-C with 13 tackles on defense and 65 yards rushing on six carries on defense … Williams has 103 tackles to date.
Series history: Dreher beat Airport 20-13 in the Eagles first-ever varsity football game in 1965, but Friday’s game will be only the 11th meeting of the teams in 40 years. Airport enjoys a 6-4 edge in the series. The Blue Devils were 35-25 winners in the last encounter in 2005.
