Football: Blythewood at South Pointe

Site: District Three South Stadium. Time: 7:30 p.m.

Blythewood notes: Defense was not enough last week for the Bengals (4-3, 1-1) in a 13-10 Region 4-4A overtime loss at home to Lancaster last week. The challenge is even more daunting this week in Rock Hill … Blythewood surrendered its first touchdown by an opposition offense in 241 minutes when Lancaster evened the score at 7-7 in the fourth quarter … C.J. Edwards had a career high 190 yards rushing on 23 carries and scored the Bengals lone TD vs. the Bruins in the third quarter on a 52-yard run. Edwards has 714 yards and eight scores on 143 carries so far … Kicker Aaron Mayes gave Blythewood a brief 10-7 lead in OT with a 23-yard field goal – his ninth three-pointer of the season. The three-year senior veteran is 9-for-12 in field goals this season … Justin Anderson and Curtis Hill have been the big-play men on defense. Anderson has 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, nine quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick. Hill has 11 tackles for loss, two sacks and four QB hurries … Tevon Lowry and Evan Lanford have been standouts in the secondary. Lowry has two interceptions, nine pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Lanford has three picks and six breakups.

South Pointe notes: The unbeaten Stallions (8-0, 2-0) crushed Ridge View 42-0 last week for its third shutout of the season. South Pointe has allowed just 40 points and five touchdowns all season … The Stallions have amassed 363 points to date – the second highest total in the state at any level behind Timberland (394). SP scores on offense, defense and special teams. Devonte Holoman, a blue-chip senior safety who transferred in from Charlotte, has five touchdowns on defense and special teams. He has return three punts for scores and two interception return tallies – including a 65-yard return score vs. Ridge View last week … On offense, the numbers are not impressive, but only because the starters rarely have played a full game. Stephon Gilmore in the nominal stats leader. The senior quarterback leads the team in rushing with 640 yards and 12 touchdowns on 62 carries and is 54-for-89 passing for 760 yards and four TDs. Charles Holmes is the top receiver with 27 catches for 437 yards and two scores.

Series history: The teams will be meeting for the first time on Friday night.
