Airport’s Jamie Sires and the Dreher girls emerged as winners at the Region 5-3A cross country championship meet on Thursday.
Sires secured individual honors with a time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds. The Eagles leader had a winning margin of 10 seconds over runner-up Tim Hawkins of South Aiken. Sires performance helped Airport finish second behind South Aiken in the boys team standings. Josh Williams and Willie Cox joined teammate Sires on the all-region team. Williams finished fifth in 17:30, while Cox was sixth in 17:31. Josh Stevenson (16th, 18:55) and Ryan Day (19th, 19:15) were the other Airport scoring runners.
The Dreher girls team edged South Aiken 35-38 for the girls championship as all five Blue Devils scoring runners finished in the top 12. Allyson Hill, Karina Colon and Ashbrook Guinn led the way with all-region runs. Hill finished second behind South Aiken’s Shelby Nicosia with a time of 19:25. Colon placed fourth (20:12) and Guinn was sixth (20:39). Ana Suarez (11th, 22:26) and Alanti McGill (12th, 22:32) provided the rest of the scoring power for the Blue Devils.
Dreher’s Tanner Dalton and Airport’s Megan Stahlberger also made the all-region cut. Dalton was third in the boys race with a time of 17:20, while Stahlberger finished fifth on the girls side, clocking in at 20:13.
