Fourth-ranked Ridge View beat fifth-ranked Spring Valley for the Region 4-4A boys cross country title at Thursday’s conference championship meet at Sandhills Research Park.
Spring Valley nipped Ridge View for the top spot in the girls division.
Ridge View prevailed by a 32-52 margin over the archrival Vikings as David Jennings and Joseph Keitt finished first and second, respectively. Jennings emerged as the individual region champion with a winning time of 16 minutes, 41.26 seconds. Keitt clocked in at 16:48.81.
No other Blazer earned all-region status, but the support efforts by Jay Lynch (8th, 17:27.87), Nick Gladden (9th, 17:28. 86) and Ty’re Ware (12th, 17:45.92) were more than enough to help the team win the top prize.

William Ivey (3rd, 16:51.91) and Ryan Moran (4th, 17:05.89) had all-region runs for Spring Valley. Matt Johnson (13th, 17:49.86), Jonathan Hanson (15th, 17:56.15) and Zach Parker (17th, 17:59.35) were the Vikings other scoring runners.
The Spring Valley girls edge Ridge View 34-40 in the hotly contested girls race. The all-region performances by Emily Bakaj (3rd, 20:49.29) and Alexandria Berry (6th, 22:30.92) were key, but the team triumph was assured by the solid support efforts of Sally Rausch (8th, 22:39.59), Annie Niehaus (9th, 22:52.10) and Olivia Knight (14th, 23:44.22).
Sierra Henderson led Ridge View with a second-place finish (19:51.76) behind Rock Hill’s Hannah Robinson. Lizzie Wilson also earned a spot on the all-region team with a fifth-place finish (22:27.24). Rebekah Clark (11th, 23:29.04), Adalin Kucherina (12th, 23:29.40) and Kiyanna Muhammad (16th, 24:02.27) also figured in the Blazers team scoring.
