Dutch Fork faces an unfamiliar challenge today when travels to Summerville for a first-round Class 4A state volleyball playoff match against the Region 8-4A champion Green Wave. It is, after all, the first playoff opener on the road for DF since 1999.
The Silver Foxes, who have won four region championships and finished second three other times during the 2000s, finished in fourth place in Region 5-4A this season behind Lexington, White Knoll and Aiken with a 9-5 conference record. DF brings a 12-6 overall mark into postseason play.
Devon Pearson, Raveen Golston, Taina Laport and Kindra Bailey are key contributors. Pearson, a senior setter, has 414 assists, 118 serving points, 34 aces and 79 digs. Freshman outside hitter Golston has 181 kills, 130 digs, 103 serving points and 29 aces. Sophomore middle hitter Laport has 131 kills, 42 blocks, 146 serving points and 52 aces. Junior middle hitter Bailey has 176 kills, 21 blocks, 112 serving points and 32 aces.
Sophomore Libero Becky Boyle is third on the team with 72 digs.
