Chapin (22-4) opened the Class 3A state volleyball playoffs with a 3-0 win over visiting Greenville on Tuesday. The Region 4-3A champion Eagles take on Daniel in second-round play at home on Thursday.
Layla Neal powered the Chapin attack in the 25-17, 25-16, 25-22 win over the Red Raiders last night with 18 kills. Neal had plenty of support from Sara Jefferson and Katy Trujillo, who chipped in seven and five kills, respectively. Sarah Barton and Shelby Todd contributed three kills apiece. Setter Chelsea Frick kept the attack rolling smoothly and finished with 34 assists.
Sam Rice paced the Eagles defensive effort with nine digs.
Chapin had in a 95% serve success rate in the win. Jefferson was particularly effective with seven aces.
