Brookland-Cayce scored a Class 3A state volleyball second-round upset win over Myrtle Beach on Thursday to advance to the Upper State semifinals. The Bearcats will travel to face Camden on Monday.
“We were pleased to pull out a win against a very well coached Myrtle Beach team,” said B-C coach Beth Cleland.
“It is difficult to travel three hours and play well, but our girls dug deep when they needed it most. Even though the history of the playoff record is traditionally strong for the Bearcats, we have a team that identifies with the underdog mentality due to the graduation of All-Star, All-State and All-Region players Danae Kunselman, Annie Henderson and Brittany Anderson.”
Junior middle blocker Alley Greer led the B-C attack with 12 kills, but Cleland reported that senior outside hitter Kristen Hutchins, junior outside hitter Alex White and freshman middle blocker Ebony McBride played well at the net, and that senior setter MacKenzie Cleland ran the attack effectively.
