Mid-Carolina’s girls cross country team made state championship meet cut for the second year in a row thanks to an eight-place showing at the Class 2A qualifying meet on Saturday at Heritage Park in Simpsonville.
The Rebels, who advanced to state last year for the first time since 1999, have never before made back-to-back state trips. M-C is looking to improve upon last season’s 14th-place performance at the state meet on Saturday at Sandhills Research Park.
Freshman Rebekah Odum, an all-state runner a year ago, paced the Rebels at the qualifier with a fourth-place finish and a time of 20 minutes, 49.12 seconds. Odum will be out to improve on her 11th-place showing at state last season.
Odum had solid support from sophomore Anna Brenner (36th, 22:35.59) and junior Maria Pascual (46th, 22:55.93). Freshman Dana Nelson and Merrideth Suber were the Rebels other scoring runners.
