Hilton Head denied Camden’s bid for a Class 3A state volleyball championship on Wednesday, handing the visiting Bulldogs a 3-0 loss in the Lower State championship match.
The Seahawks, behind the play of senior outside hitter Carly Ledbetter, ended Camden’s season at 21-3. Ledbetter was the major force at the net, finishing with 20 kills in a power performance that left Bulldogs coach Paige Wilson impressed.
“You don’t face many players across the net like her,” Wilson told Justin Jarrett of the Island Packet after the match. “She (was) the dominating factor.”
Camden jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first game, but the Seahawks rallied to prevail 25-20. Hilton Head also overcame deficits in the second and third games on the way to 25-23 and 25-17 wins. The Seahawks were motivated by the fact that they had lost in the LS finale in 2006 and 2007.
