CC: DF girls end state Top 10 drought

Dutch Fork’s girls cross country team returned to the Top 10 at the state championship meet for the first time in 11 years with a fifth-place finish in the Class 4A season finale at Sandhills Research Park.

The Silver Foxes finished with 147 points, just two points behind fourth-place Wando. It was the second-best state showing for the DF girls in program history, ranking behind only the third-place, 126-point performance by the 1995 team in Class 3A.

Senior Niki Klasnic led the way for the reigning Region 5-4A champs with an all-state performance. Klasnic finished 15th with a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds. Juniors Michelle Arms and Samantha Hughes fell in behind the senior leader, finishing 19th (19:58) and 20th (19:59), respectively.

Eighth-grader Hannah Martin (39th, 20:40) and senior Monique James (61st, 21:26) accounted for the rest of the team points.

Freshman Roland Hakes was the lone Dutch Fork boys entry. Hakes finished 68th in 17:47.
